Repertoire
La Luna's repertoire covers a century of tango, from the early sounds of the Guardia Vieja and
the lyricism of the revered master Pugliese to
the modern Tango Nuevo , exemplified in the unrelenting sensuality of Piazzolla's famous "Libertango"
and La Luna's own compositions. Always popular are the ensemble's interpretations of the "lounge tango" music
of the Gotan
Project. To this mix La Luna
adds its own elements of jazz and improvisation. In 2012 La Luna
introduces well known singer Jennine Bailey in a number of vocal tangos.
Some of the favourite titles are El Choclo, La Yumba and
the waltz Desde
el Alma; the beautiful Astor Piazzolla ballad Oblivion; Paris,
Texas -
one of Gotan Project's best known recordings - and of course La
Cumparsita, the most famous of all tangos.
